Quilting: Stitching our lives together
Mary Meyers, CSJ

This week will provide an opportunity for all participants to create
a simple star block.  Participants will learn techniques of cutting,
piecing, sewing and quilting a simple block.  As we move through
the process of choosing colors and star patterns, participants will
engage in a reflective process to explore what their choice of color
might reveal about the beauty of their own lives. Watching pieces
come together can offer an image of the amazing ways
each participant has experienced parts of their lives coming together in unimaginable ways. As the quilting stitch brings out the beauty of the block, participants will be encouraged to see how God is continuing to quilt the parts of their lives together into an amazing wholeness. These five days will be filled with fun, beauty, learning, and occasional frustration - all culminating in a beautiful quilted star block.

Making Sense of Myself 3 Keys Workshop
Tamera Helms, MDiv

How can I live a more fulfilling life out of who I truly am? Who am I beyond my roles and relationships? Why are my initial reactions to certain situations and people irrational and involuntary? Helping to answer these questions, workshop participants use the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® to profile the True Self along with the Enneagram to profile the Defense System part of personality. Behold, I Shall Make all Things New
Barbara Fiand, SNDdeN

During our time together we will reflect on the depth issues of our faith. We live in extraordinary times. On the one hand we experience unprecedented darkness, confusion and violence; on the other hand creativity and insights abound and are being proclaimed everywhere. There is a transformation of consciousness emerging among us – spearheaded amazingly enough by the discoveries of science, and now also finding resonance in the area of spirituality where it calls us to plunge deeply and look at our faith in new and creative ways. We will explore what this means for us as shepherds of God’s goodness and mercy on this
fragile planet. Seeing with new eyes in a manner meaningful and
life-giving for the 21st century, does not happen from the outside,
but speaks to a conversion of the heart. It flows in us and through
us. It is fire in our midst – the Spirit of God deep within, inviting
us into a new vision that will transform and re-energize us.

Living Sacred Moments: Inner and Outer Landscapes: Celtic Spirituality
Esther Kennedy, OP, MSW, Suzanne Shreiber, OP

In Celtic tradition and spirituality, land and sea ~ stone                                                                              and water; reveal the Divine presence within this                                                                             outer landscape and call to our wild, soulful nature.                                                                             There is no separation between the physical and spiritual                                                                             worlds. As human beings, we are rooted in and come out                                                                             of Earth. Today, called to live out of a deeper                                                                             consciousness, we embrace a new story of how life has                                                                             evolved over the millennia.  As humans, gifted with                                                                             wisdom, creativity and imagination, we can live lives                                                                             rooted in love, justice and kindness that will affect the                                                                             Whole.

This call recognizes that within our very essence, we are women and men of courage, community and compassion. Together we deepen our connection to live in harmony with Mystery, Earth and all Peoples.

Through presentations, story, reflection,, song, and art the soulfulness of our inner and outer landscapes will unfold.

Icon Painting as Prayer
Christopher Marie Wagner, OSF

Icon writing is a spiritual exercise using paint and brush to enter into                                                     the world of the eternal. Deepen your prayer experience through the                                                     writing of an icon of St. Francis of Assisi. This particular icon                                                     represents our well-known and beloved Saint holding the San Damiano                                                     Crucifix which spoke to him at the time of his conversion. In his later                                                     life, he bore the wounds of the crucified Christ, indicated by the                                                     bandaged hands.

This class incorporates an introduction to the history, theology and                                                     symbolism of icons as well as techniques in gold leafing and painting                                                     on a board which has been prepared with a white gesso.

Know Thyself
Sr. Barbara Fiand, SNDdeN

"Know Thyself" is a plea that has stirred human questing ever since it is claimed that Socrates challenged his followers to do so thousands of years ago. But what is our true self, and how can we approach it and embrace it in our time -- with the insights that have been given to us in our age especially in the area of holistic spirituality? During our time together we will reflect on this fascinating question especially in the light of what science tells us today about our fundamental interconnectedness, about the unfathomable Mystery to which even the most sophisticated scientific research must yield, about universal consciousness, the broadening of human awareness, and the effects our intentionality has on the environment.

Celtic Spirituality

Spa for the Soul

St. Kateri Tekakwitha is the first Native American to be declared a Saint. She was canonized October 21, 2012. She is the patroness of the environment and ecology as is St. Francis of Assisi.

Kateri was born near the town of Auriesville, New York, in the year 1656. She was the daughter of a Mohawk warrior and a member of the Turtle clan. When Kateri was four years old her brother and parents died of small pox. Kateri survived the disease but was left with severe facial scars.

In her teenage years she was deeply drawn to Christianity and desired to be  baptized. She had a deep devotion to the presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

Kateri was a quiet, reflective person. She lived a life dedicated to prayer and care for the sick and aged. “What many admired in her was not the spectacular but in her quiet way she was as constant as the stars” She was skilled at traditional women’s arts: beading, weaving mats and baskets and preparing food from game, crops and gathered produce. She also took part in the seasonal growing and harvesting of food. St. Kateri was a “woman who understood well and accepted with patient resignation the mystery of the cross…the paradox of death leading to life, and defeat and failure leading to victory”

Bishop Howard J. Hubbard of Albany said “St. Kateri was a woman of magnificent fortitude, dogged determination and unswerving conviction. St. Kateri was a woman of great prayer, a woman who had a deep and abiding awareness of God’s presence and love for her.” She died peacefully on Holy Thursday, April 17, 1680 at the age of twenty-four. Relatives and friends were astounded that her severe facial disfiguration from small pox had completely cleared. Her face was smooth and beautiful.

She is remembered as the Lily of the Mohawks. Her feast day is celebrated July 14th.
